Hello everyone,

I been off the site for awhile trying to recover from a motorcyle wreck I was in! Luckly the helmet save my head! Only ended up with lots of road rash, collar bone broke in 2 places and 3 broke ribs. To make all this worse the person that I hit, this was in no way my fault, left me laying on a country raod and hauled a**! Ok enough crying about that, the issue Im concrerned with today is the Sport Trac!!! I was on my was to work, stop to grab some food at a drive thru and before I got my food, I heard a ding and looked at the dash and it said check gauges. So the temp guage was almost pegged out!! Ive never had any kind of issue with overheating so I pull into a parklot, turned off the AC and the temp came right down. I couldnt make it do it again and was just wondering what the issue could be? I have check the coolant yet or anything else for that matter. Just want to see if any other member have had any issues like this!

Thanks, Kenny

Kenny,

I have seen a thermostat stick closed and then work normally again... (Happened in my daughters Taurus) Temp went way up a few times, and then would be OK for a few days. Replaced the thermostat, and it hasnt done it since... Thermostat is cheap, might start there.

I would check the coolant level first. If that's okay then it could be the thermostat or the fan clutch.

Huh.. the fan clutch, I hadnt thought about that! Ill check the coolant here in alittle bit at lunch (I work nights) and if thats fine I guess Ill start with the thermostat. Im not sure how long they normally last but Ive got 87,000 on the ST now so it would probly be a good thing either way! How hard is it to change out the fan clutch?

Idiot almost converted me into an organ donor yesterday. Came over from lane next to me. I had oncoming traffic. Luckily I ate the brakes and slowed down enough to let him in. I had my lights on, wore light colored clothing, etc. Wish I was carrying- I'd blown out one of his tires at a minimum.

Sticky therm. Happened to me a few times over the winter just after a cold start. Trac was slow to warm up on the gauge, then after about driving a mile would slam all the way over to the overheat side, then drop and work normal as soon as I pulled over.
