Hello Everyone! I was thinking about changing the color of my ST? It's yellow (which I am now tired of) and I was thinking about painting it black. I worried about any problems that could result from doing this and if it would affect the resale value. Has anyone changed the color of their ST, would you reccommended doing it, and around how much should it cost? Thanks for your help!

It wont affect a resale value, it will probably help if anything, however the cost to paint an entire vehicle to change the color completely is probably more than your ST is worth right now....

As XST mentioned, the cost would probably be pretty high if done right. You'd be painting the door jams and engine bay too, right?

Agreed with JK, i actually got mine quoted. And if for some reason you do, i don't recommend black. It's my fav car color by far, but SOOOO hard 2 keep clean!

If you plan on keeping the ST for a while and the paint is in good condition, I think painting it a different color is a mistake. For a different look get some different wheels & tires or raise it or lower it. If you still want to paint, instead of a complete color change, consider a two-tone and only paint the new color. If done properly you will save a considerable amout of money and have something no one else does...

Actually, it probably will hurt the resale value. There are codes that tell wiat the original color was and so that can easily be detected. Also, most repaints by most body shops are not undetectable. There is usually some minor flaws and imperfections that will show up.

Also, it is very expensive to repaint a vehicle a different color since there are so many more serfaces that must be painted and even then they don't paint behind interior panesl, so if someone removes a door panel, the old yellow paint will be there, etc.

A complete repaint to black could easily cost you $4000 or more. Not to mention the loss in resale value....The question will alwasy be, "Why was it repainted?" Many people will think it was severely wrecked and perhaps should have been junked?

If you don't like the yellow, you are far better off selling it and buy a black one.

The only acception might be if you had a custom, show quality paint job done on it, but that is really expensive $10k and up and if you are going to spend that kind of money, you should dismantal the vehicle, have all the panels straightened and aligned to perfection and the vehicle should be stripped down to the paintable body parts so everything is painted.

Mookie,

Wow, did I get off key on that one. Not sure how that happened other than I must have gotten interrupted in mid-sentence.:lol::blink:

thanks guys! maybe i'll consider getting some news rims, adding some striping, and a grill in the front. thanks for all the advice!

I've got a Dark Blue '02 in Atlanta that I'll trade for your yellow '02!

Zinc Yellow is not that common of a color to begin with. IT is one of the rare ones (Mandarin Gold, Zinc Yellow, Competition Orange) Not that the color makes that much of a difference... I always wanted a Mandarin Gold Trac. I don't see many anymore..
