Paint Problem

i have a problem

with the paint on my hood, its cracking or splitting. I believe this is called de-lamination or something like that. has anyone else had this problem? I was told that this would be a factory defect from a friend. I have a 2002 ST 80,000 miles and it's black. I have not gone by the dealer yet. If it is a factory problem does it matter if the warranty expired? Any feedback will be a help! Thanks

Jackt, just curious if you can see the cracks but not feel them. For example, I have a 98 Accord and the hood had "cracks" that you could see but you couldn't feel them. The clear coat was fine but the primer was failing underneath.

If that is the case, I would take it up with Ford. That is a defect from the factory. I was able to get Honda to repaint the front of my accord.

Good luck, had the same problem with my Black 2001 ST and took in into local Ford dealer who confirmed that there was too much paint put on at the factory causing these little cracks. He told me that the car was out of warranty (38,000 miles

and since I did not buy it at their dealership they would not fix it. Quess what dealership I will never buy a car from .

My `97 Ranger did that on the roof and hood. My brother-in-law wet sanded and re-painted it for me. I shudder to think what the dealer would have said.

My Island Blue 2001 has the same problem, I discovered it 3 months out of warranty. I went round and round with Ford, they said your warranty is expired and your out of luck.

Guess which car company I'm never buying from again!

I had this EXACT problem on my 2002 ST...black in color. I caught it JUST in time and my Ford dealer repainted 50% of the truck right before I ran out of warranty (I took it in with 35,950 miles on it). The problem is starting up in other areas now (I have 55,000 miles now) and I'm debating what I should do.

I had my hood repainted at 35K, and now the cracking is starting to show up on my roof. I'm planning to go see the dealer next time I'm home, but I'm not hopeful.
