Yes. I believe the concensus is to let the moter cool a little bit. Then remove the coil packs. Loosen the plugs about an 1/8" to 1/4 turn and spray a little penetrating oil down the well and let sit overnight. Next morning remove carefully(slowly) work it back and forth a little if you have to. If you feel a little pop, you broke the plug. I am pretty sure that after January of '08, Ford changed the design to a one piece plug. Make sure you get this type of replacement. Oh, stick with the Motorcraft plugs, aftermarkets don't perform as well. I don't think there is a project in the project section. This what I was told to do to get 'em out. Bob

Tony,

I believe I've heard that if the Dealer breaks them, you have to pay extra to have them get it out. Taking to the dealer doesn't mean they will pay for the damage of a broken plug.

I could be wrong but I think I remember reading about that in previous posts. I'm usually NEVER WRONG (at least that's what I tell my wife :cheeky:)

Members will chime in if I understood this wrong.

The dealer, or any maintainence shop will charge you extra for the labor if they have to. Its up to you. If you break the plug, you'll have to go out and get the extractor tools, about $70 the last time I checked around. Your call. Bob

I have done so many spark plug changes in the new 3 valve motors it isn't funny and not once have I ever had an issue with a plug not coming out and I've done them hot and cold with anywhere from 60,000 miles to well over 100k. I think people....and Ford...are making this out to be a bigger issue than it has to be. If your that paranoid about doing the work take it to a shop, that way if one does break you aren't out the tow bill to get the vehicle to the shop.
