What are the prefered settings for a wheel alignment? The tire shop I used to got to all the time closed its doors, so I'm in searching for a new shop. The old shop would let me sit in the vehicle on the rack to center the steering wheel.

Big Al

Preferred settings??

As far as being in the vehicle when it is aligned...not in my shop. The alignment specs do not take into account the weight of passengers when the alignment is set up...and trust me it can make a difference. The only vehicles that I can think of right off hand that require you to have the vehicle loaded a certain way when aligning it are BMW's

I think Big Al is refering to alignment specs that were mentioned a number of years ago (9-10) by another Ford Technician who worked at a dealership his specialty was doing wheel alignments. He stated that there were a range of alignment settings that were acceptable as being properly aligned, but that many of the early Explorer/Gen-1 Sport Trac's often needed much tighter alignment tolerances and referred to them as "Preferred" settings. I don't know if it was HIS preferences through experience, or there was some Ford document (TSB) that recommended these Preferred settings?

...Rich

Richard, is right. I had copied the prefered specs and saved them for future use. Right now I cant find them. Probably put them in the wrong folder ar named them wrong.

I remember someone has pasted them on here, off and on. I was thinking Todd Z. I might be wrong.

Yes Richard you are correct. The common word was "Preffered" when the shop preformed the alignment.

Eddie, if you find them, can you email them to me? I'll print them out and save it with all the other paper work I have on the trac.

I'll also search and see what I can find.
