Have any of you installed the Pro Comp ES9000 shocks? They are running a deal right now that will upgrade you to the ES9000 with the purchase of the 3000 series.
I have them and I love em'. Only thing is I had to go buy nuts and bolts for the front shocks because they didn't come with the bolts for the lower bracket. I also changed the rear bolts just to be safe. They are a huge improvement over the stock ones.
--brandon64 is correct in needing some extra hardware in most cases. I don't believe they come with the small one inch bolts. I read here that the oem bolts can be removed (good luck) and that they are grade 8 bolts. I read and used the advice to buy grade 8--5/16 X 1" bolts.
--the rear shocks come with two different size crossbars. I read and used the longer of the two.
--There have been some threads on the pro comp shocks such as, "help w/shock install!!! and "shock installation". Everyone seems very pleased with the Pro Comps and for that matter anything but the stock shocks
--The drivers side rear shock is the most difficult to change. Read the two member projects on shock changing for some pointers
--I have the rear shocks installed and haven't noticed much of a difference although I haven't done any offroading. I am still waiting and anxious to get my correct front ones from jbccoffroad.com. My advice order someplace else. Long story.
I installed them in two stages. Backs first and then the fronts. The backs did not make a huge difference with the stock fronts. Once I had the fronts put on it made a huge difference. It handles better when cornering and it has eliminated the continuing bounce after going over a bump. The ride is firmer but this is a good thing. I just put 2640 miles on a summer trip and I was very glad that I had changed the shocks.
If you have a vice you can squeeze out the front bolts from the old shocks.
I installed mine about 2 months ago and love the way it handles. I used the oem bolts. Had no trouble removing them. Like Goalie says though, it definitely helps to have a vice. I used the vice to grip the shock and then tapped out the bolts with a hammer.
I have the ES9000 shocks on there too - I installed them about a month or so ago and, like everyone else, I love them. I don't bottom out driving up driveways, or top out going over speed bumps any more. My shocks were HORRIBLE so I noticed a difference in the front and the rear. I would say go for it.
I have the ES9000 and I like them just fine. I could not get the OEM bolts off so I bought the grade 8--5/16 X 1" bolts , nuts ,and lock washes from Ace hardware for under $5. I also did a tire rotation at same time which made shock install easier because of the tires not being in the way. Getting new shocks is money well spent !!
I have tried t get the pro comps of which you guys speak of here in Plano ,Texas at 4wheel parts and they tell me no can do Rancho 5000 only! Are they trying to pull a fast one? I am tending to think you all know more since you have all done the install.BTW how much are you all paying for the set plus labor.
