Today about a mile from the house the truck started to sputter when pushing on the gas (while I was driving approx 50 mph). This happened about 6 times before it finally shut off. I coasted into my neighborhood where I stopped. At this point it started right up and made it home - thankfully. The sputtering seemed to happen only when the "theft" security light came on, everytime the lite went off the truck ran fine again. When it completely shut off all the dummy lights came on. Any ideas/suggestions on what might be the cause of this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Just a swag, but with your mention of it occurring when the 'theft' light is on, I can't help think that maybe the PATS system is involved with the failure.

Thanks Bob, I researched the information you gave me and this is a copy and paste from one of the sites I found when I googled the ford PATS systems....so I am up for any other thoughts.

It is not a PATS Issue, if:

The Service Engine Soon light is illuminated. (Investigate PCM system)

There is no communications with PCM ; PCM will always communicate on the diagnostic link regardless of theft status. (Investigate PCM system)

Engine stalls on road: Once the engine runs for one second, PATS CANNOT disable the engine. Running stalls are not PATS issues.

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? Just a thought. It can give you these symptoms.
