Problems with gears

My '01 Sport Trac seems to "hover" in between first and second gear while accelerating. It feels like it shifts into neutral for around a second, but then it grabs second gear. It is really noticeable when accelerating down hill, but still happens on flat land. Has anyone else had this problem, and what have you done to fix it? (I have also been having the rpms rev when i put it into park, as if the onboard computer is trying to keep it from dieing, but dont know if this is related.)

Mileage on the truck??



Time for a tranny service, and clean the IAC motor...

If not, sounds like the tranny may be going bad..

Around 45,000mi. It was just serviced and i thought that they checked everything out (they should have for the amount they charge!)
