Here is the deal.

I purchased a new laptop that came with Word 2007, (I paid extra for it and honestly bought it pre-installed).

I never activated it as I was using word 2003. So now I re-did my computer back to "out of box" condition and want to use the Word 2007 which I did buy.

It wants an activation code or Product Key. I do not have this key because it was part of the package when I bought it.

So I contact Microsoft and they tell me to deal with Toshiba as it was pre-installed purchased product.

I call Toshiba and because I did not activate it when I got the computer, they are telling me they can only give me the code that will allow me to use it for 60 days.

Anyone know how to get around this issue. If I did not pay for it up front then I would simply pay the money and get the full code. But,,,, I did that once, not fair to have to do it again...

Thanks,,,,,,

Doubtful you will ever get them to give you a new code without purchasing it again.

Crack it, or ditch it and use OpenOffice.

You need to have some type of record that it was purchased. Does it show on your receipt or anywhere? Also, even when the office (word) software comes preinstalled they give you the office cd or at least the cd key on a piece of paper with the license.

If you have some proof ask to speak to a higher level tech or a manager at customer service. There are no time frames in which you have to install or activate a product. It is Toshiba's responsibility to help you because it came with the machine. This is BS.

George is correct.

You need to have your proof of putchase. You should have received at least some certificate stating that it was a legal copy. Sometimes they put a sticker on the PC with the key-code. You may need to contact the place where you purchased the PC and find out the Key-Code.

I have no sticker on anything. I have looked everywhere.

Called Toshiba and they agree that it was pre-installed and purchased but there support ended after 90 days.

So call Microsoft and they say sorry, we see no activation for your product, thus no support.

I am chasing my tail...

Despite pre-installation, I would think you should have a product key somewhere in the packaging that came with the pc. Usually with the Word/Office documentation. Never seen an office prod. id. on the case.

Coastiejoe,

I have no reason to doubt that you have a valid license for Word 2007. Therefore I have no issue with recommending that you might want to try a crack/hack site (like the one linked below) to try to download a crack program that will generate activation codes and/or otherwise get you past this issue.

When browsing such sites and especially when downloading and running programs practice safe computing (run virus scanner).

I agree with ditching Word and going with OpenOffice. It is 100% compatible with most all Word type programs. You simply save your created file as the type of file you would like and your all set. Did we mention it is completely free.

IF you still have not found a serial #, go to www.sswarez.com and search for office 2007, you might find some help there. I am 90% sure someone will help you if you ask on there forum. I go there for certain things.

Did we mention it is completely free.

Oh yeah, I did forget to mention that OpenOffice is FREE.

You could try pulling up to the front door of the Toshiba main office with that boat you posted a pic of a couple of day ago in tow. That might open them up to a bit more discussion. ;)

I really do want to stick with my true office edition. I am very familiar with it and know how to do pretty much everything especially the short cut keys...

I have not solved this just yet, but I think I can when I have time with some of the above suggestions...

Coastie,

you should have received a certificate when you got the laptop. do you still have all the paperwork? Also, if you have the order number for Toshiba, they should honor your order and issue you the information. How did you order the laptop?

Coastie,,

your in the coast guard right??? you can get a government version of office 2007 for $19.99 shipped from microsoft.. the full version.. i have the link on my computer at work.. pretty much you have to have a government / military e-mail address.. they verify by sending you a link to order.. send me an e-mail with your on base e-mail address and i'll send you the link.. you may need a special code from your network personnel if they have it.. the one i have is for the Air Mobility Command (Air Force)

Probably not what you're looking for, but on the off chance..

A good, and free, alternative is "AbiWord" http://abisource.com/

It's a good word processor, that has all the needed functions, without all the extra bloat of MS Word.

Also, Apple Mac's really are much more reasonable in terms of licensing / validation. The Operating System doesn't have a registration key, nor do most of their apps (iPhoto, iMovie, etc..). Although, some of their more expensive apps do have registration keys.

TroY,

Retired last October however I am a Federal Employee.

I did buy a set last year and I may have the link myself as well.

I will welcome your link though just in case I don't find mine..

I can handle 20 bucks... LOL

(Did a search and found my Gov Link, but please either post or sends yours just in case mine is old, dead or for older versions)

Thanks,,,
