98 Million Dollars....

60 bundles weighing a total of 2100 pounds.

And yes, we talked it over with the crew to go to Aruba instead... LOL.

So far I have been with many celebrities, various rare animals, mascots from various colleges and military services, gold, silver and money. But the 98 mil is the highest dollar amount thus far..

On the flip side. Bringing home the remains of a soldier is a verry somber moment....

Yo Coastie, next time you do that run can you take me along with you ? I just want to count all that money while we are in the air to see how long it will take before we land! Do you have an idea that you will be doing such things? With your job I am pretty sure thast you get surprised from time to time. Keep up the good work! BTW, when I win the Texas Lottery I want you to come along and help me get it back home so I can bury it in the backyard!:lol: I'll throw you out a couple of thousand or so....with a check that is! ;)

Next time you're flying with a load of dough, have the pilot fly over Mars Hill NC and throw me out a few bundles. :D

I saw the movie "Flight Plan" a couple weeks ago and thought, "Hey! I know one of those guys!" :D

Least you could do is buy all the members here a new trac!

Clearly though, the $ were not the most valuable cargo of the day. Here's a great story about bringing soldiers home. The best newspaper story I've ever read, bar none.

I wish everyone could read that story.

As an addition, the writer and photographer recently received Pulitzer prizes for their work.

I just happened to be coming back from Elk hunting in Colorado the day it was published last year (appropriately Veteran's Day) and picked up the paper in the airport. That was a tough one to read on an airplane.

Coastie--Are you able to provide any info regarding whose money it is (government's, a celebrity's, etc.)? Or why it was being moved? Or anything else along those lines?

Yeah, Rocky Mt news....no liberal slant there.

Still, a good news article, and yes, everyone who makes the decision to go to war should understand the costs to families; but I never assumed for a minute that those that make such decisions DON'T consider such things.

OK. Sometimes I know in advance and others it is a surprise.

In this case the money was a Federal Reserve transfer. All brand new hundred dollar bills.

It was put onto the flight knowing that we were going to be on the plane. So it as one of those surprise things this time.

It does not change my job in the slightest. But it does move the plane to a higher threat or concern level.

Thought it was a bit as the value was up there.

I got a tour of the Federal Reserve Branch in Pittsburgh back when I was in college and saw a counting room with what the tour guide told us was over $160 million. Awesome sight. Money in bales like hay. Lots of bulletproof glass windows with gunports and guards behind them who don't smile when you wave at them.

Dunbar was waiting for us at the landind stirip. Three other planes had the exact same load. Each set wrapped in their own colors and hand numbered as they were loaded. The man that numbered them flew with the load and renumbered them on the way back out of the cargo hole.

It was interesting to watch.

I didn't do the math but each little bundle has something like 1.25 million dollars and from the way they were tossing them around I could carry two with no problem... LOL
