Hi all!!

Does switching to a high performance intake improve gas mileage/performance or is it just mainly done to make the engine look good?

I saw some of the group projects for the Intake and thought they looked really cool, I was just wondering about performance wise if it was worth the cost and time.

As always, thanks for any info.

Being the internal combustion engine is just a sophisticated, highly inefficent air pump, doing something to increase air flow in, and/or out, will increase both power output and efficiency. Only, of course, if you can keep your foot out of the go fast pedal.

You'll notice more grunt and noise above 3000 RPM. Any MPG gains will be minor, 1-2 if you're very lucky; horsepower can be up to 5, again, if you're lucky.

Ron,

You will only experience minor HP gains (5-8 HP) and that will occur at higher RPMs, which is not where you will be getting very good gas mileage.

You will not see any noticable or significant improvement in gas mileage over the stock paper filter unless your existing air filter is extremely dirty and needs to be replaced anyway. Since your paper filter can get pretty dirty in 8K-10K miles, the advantage of the K&N style filter comes with not having a clogged filter and only needing cleaning at 50K miles. So if you stretch you paper filter by not changing it for 12K, 15K or 20K miles, you may notice a larger improvement in gas mileage.
