The Ford shop manual mentions putting the gear in neutral (and putting Trac on hoist) when servicing the trans. Does this apply if I'm going to drop the VB? Also, I take it I need to disconnect the battery too.

Yes, it releases the park pin and the piston in the valve body will be inside the VB so it can be removed easily....



I always did that weather it said to or not..

Thanks Todd. I hope I can shift gears after I've already dropped the pan and drained some fluid...



Edit: Yup, I can shift.
