My boy bought a 2006 Ranger STX w/3.0 v6 in January. It now has 4k miles on it and he had the check engine light come on. Since he was out and about, he had it scanned at Autozone, and it came up with right and left O2 sensors bad. So, into the dealer it went. Next day they call and say it is ready, both O2's replaced, light is out.
Service advisor asks if he has been using additives, both upstream O2 sensors were coroded very badly she said. Of course, he has not been using any additives.
Well, we pick up the truck and he gets about 500 yds and the light comes back on. We took it back, they have had it for another day and after conversing with FOMOCO, they are replacing the ECU.
Kind of ironic that both O2 sensors were bad AND he has a bad ECU. When I followed him out, he was pouring water out of the exhaust (not the usual drip in cold weather) - I am wondering if maybe this is the cause of the corrosion.....
Got to say that Beach Ford in VA Beach has been very helpful. They rented him a Focus on their nickel, even though they dont have to, and have been keeping him advised all the way. I feel kind of bad griping about them sticking me for 85.00 labor to install a MAF on the mustang (on top of the 200. for the part and 109 for scanning).
Hopefully, he'll get it back on Monday fixed, I'm already tired of hearing him whine about driving a POS Focus.....
