The bed in my truck is permanently stained, discolored, and just generally is poor shape. I'm wondering if anyone has recoated the bed bottom with anything, and if so what they used and how it turned out. I'm looking for options.

Thought I answered this already..... the make up of the plastic does not allow for good bonding or adhesion to the plastic for painting or coating.
You could try sanding the whole dam thing, But most of us run bed mats or rubber mats if you will to protect and keep it looking good.
The mats are basically obsolete so finding one is impossible, new or used or junk yard..... best bet is get an f150 one and cut it, or some of that garage floor mat rubber and cut to fit.
