Rear axle popping

My neighbor borrowed my truck, and while I was listening to him drive away I noticed a knocking or popping noise coming form the truck. After closer inspection I noticed a nut that has fallen off of the rear sway bark link (however, not the problem), but nothing else unusual. I can rock the truck side to side (by grabing the bed and rocking back and forth) and notice that the popping noise can be heard. Visually, it looks like the rear tire or axl is sliding a tiny bit in the housing making the noise. Is that small amount of play supposed to be there? I have never noticed it before on this truck or any other that I have driven.

Yep that is perfectly normal

Thanks for the reply. Getting close to 140K, and I haven't had problems yet (knock knock) so I am starting to hear and see things that really aren't problems.

Is .020 endplay between the clip and the housing, a click is normal as said above.
