So, my rear brakes are waaaaay overdue. I'll put new pads and rotors on for sure. The question is...

Do the calipers have an increased risk of needing replacement when the pads and rotors are driven an extended time while worn?

When I had my tires put on they checked my brakes and recommended the calipers be replaced. Don't have the paperwork explaining why. I figured just trying to upsell to me.

Thoughts?

Calipers are relatively easy to rebuild, but it is even easier just to replace them. Not sure if many shops go to the trouble to rebuild them anymore.

Generally speaking,,, as long as the seals are good and you are not leaking fluid, then no, they do not normally need replaced even when high miles are on them.

Remove the bleeders. If the pucks push in freely and the old fluid is discolored but not rusty. No leaks around the dust seals. You should be fine...

Front calipers do 70% of the braking.
