Look at the door, here are the codes...

L - Limited Slip Differential

C - Conventional Differential

Code ... Ratio

41 ...... 3.27C

42 ...... 4.10C

43 ...... 3.08C

45 ...... 3.55C

46 ...... 3.73C

D1 ...... 3.27L

D2 ...... 4.10L

D4 ...... 3.73L

D5 ...... 3.55L

I f you do have limited slip. Use the ford friction modifier additive. I never had much luck with the fluid that says already in it.

If you have lots of miles on the limited slip and never changed the clutch packs now is the time. One way is to raise the rear axle off the ground and pull the tire in and out of the axle you may find lot of play when the friction plates get worn out. The friction plates act like a spacer for the c clips on the axle shaft.

do the clutch pack whine? I have a whine/ whiring noise coming from what i think is the rear diff ... was thinking it was a pinion bearing but could it be clutch packs?

I dont think so.......

i get a what would be descrived as a loud whine from the rear end all through first gear.......

then it goes away after that.
