Well,I just finished changing my gear oil (with additive). I was hoping to eliminate that whining noise from the rear but it doesn't seem to be working. I've explained on a previous post that the noise is only audible when I touch the gas pedal...no matter what the speed and how little I push the pedal. Please, someone tell me that it's something other than the rear diff. Anyone know what kinda damage that's gonna do to my wallet...if it is the rear end?

The front differential on mine went bad. They said it had worn teeth on the gears. It was going to cost $1,000 to rebuild. I went with a low mileage one from the junkyard for $400. Mine made a roaring sound like a bad wheel bearing.

How did the gear faces look? Smooth no pits or flakes?

The last time I had that symptom it was pinion bearing. On a dodge van.

its the rear diff- needs ring and pinion- carrier bearings- pinion bearing and seal and axle seals while youre at it- might as well change out the clutch packs too- about 1500- road pig
