You have to call your loan company. If it is Ford Motor Credit, that is who you call. If you went through a bank, that is who you call.

Good luck with that. I had to store my Toyota for a year at my own cost, because Toyota Motor Credit wouldn't release mine when I went to Korea. The DoD will not pay for storage if you are authorized to ship, even if the reason you don't ship is because the bank won't give clearance.

Travis,

Nelson is correct. You need to contact the finance company that holds the lien on your Sport Trac and get the letter from them. The will probably include a statement that you or your new insurance company must send them proof of insurance That's usually done automatically in the states, but it is not always automatic overseas.

When I was in the Army, I shipped vehicles overseas 3 times and only got a permission letter for the first vehicle. Either it's something that the military wants you to do before you ship the vehicle, but I don't recall ever being asked to show the letter when I shipped any vehicle and two were still active loans. I would recommend you get the letter since they may have tightened that loophole :)

Yes, the requirement is only about 5 years old. Apparently a lot of companies got burned by GIs going overseas and then not paying. The shipment back to the US would be expensive if that occurred. Now we have to sign a waiver staing we will pay to ship the vehicle back if we have the vehicle reposessed. The DoD and US Customs won't let them leave without the letter.

Nelson,

It's not new, it just was not enforced. I'm sure that some finance companies got burned, but back then they could not repo a car in Germany however that may be different now.
