I'm considering getting my step bars blasted and then powder coated.

Anyone have any insight as to how to remove the plastic step plates that are on top of the bars? I'd like to reuse them if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Use a flat blade screwdriver and gently pry up.

I recently re-did mine. Wet sanded after removing the plastic step plates and then used roll on/brush on bed liner to coat them.

Easy and inexpensive.

If they are the OEM bars, the plastic step plates have hollow wedges that push through the step bars to hold them in place. From underneath, you can pinch the wedges with pliers and push them back up through the bar. Easy to come off.

Keep in mind that you can't powdercoat plastic and the curved endcaps are plastic so you will have to find spray paint that matchs the PC for those.

The endcaps on mine aren't plastic (at least the front ones aren't). It's an '03.

They're showing rust hence my desire to repaint them.
