I have an 2003 with a 4.0L and 85,000 miles. When the vehicle sits overnight and I start it for the first time the next day I have a clicking noise at the the top of the engine near the belt. After a minute or two it dissapears. I think it is the idler pulley just to the left of the alternator. How hard is it for me to replace? How would I remove the pulley?

Thanks for the help

Thanks for the quick reply. I know how to remove the serpentine belt. How do you remove the idler pulley? How many bolts actually have to be removed.

Thanks

One bolt holds the pully in place. While it is apart, replace the belt and tensioner. You will be glad you did.

Have you tried removing the belt and then sarting the engine to confirm that it is the idler pulley. You can run a cold engine for a good 2 minutes with no belt if you are trying to pinpoint a noise
