The time has come to replace my Pioneer 6 CD changer unit on my '02

The stereo plays fine but the CD is giving me difficulties IE tells me "no CD" when one is in there, refuses to eject CD give a "CD error" etc. eventually it give me back the CD but it's annoying.

That said, I want to replace it and I wanted to get suggestions from the forum.

Here is the criteria:

1. Don't care if it has a multiple CD changer (single CD is fine).

2. I'm happy with the OEM unit sound & power so I don't need 300w per channel.

3. I want to keep all the other OEM speakers, amps & sub.

4. I want the LEDs to match the green dash.

5. I would prefer a single DIN with a pocket spacer (I could use the space).

I assume you can get wiring adapters for any system to be plug & play, so what would be the best aftermarket replacement make & model?

Andy- If your'e OK with a single disc player go with an Alpine or another Pioneer deck.

Fewer moving parts in a single disc player. Check the Crutchfield.com site for compatibility.

The dash kit and wiring harness should be readily available. FYI, the dash kit "pocket" has room for ONE regular size single CD jewel case. (Not much room)

Can't see you changing the head unit and NOT replacing at least the front stock OEM 6 X 8 speakers. They are crap, putting it mildly. Unless you have the "upgraded" Pioneer system.

Good Luck.

Having the 2002 with the subwoofer, which I believe means I got the better sound option, are the front speakers still as crappy as you say? I could go for upgrading the speakers, because even though they sound good to me (Better than a 92 lesabre stock, I'll tell you lol) I can always go better.

A while ago I retrofitted an 05 6-disc mp3 player ST radio into my 02, and I'm feeling the need for better myself. 6 mp3 cds is not enough, and not convenient like a pen drive...if there are actual green radios (Cabrera mentioned my one major complaint) then I'm game...though how hard is it to use the stock 02 subwoofer with an aftermarket radio?

I know that the stock woofer is regarded as lame, and that having only one woofer is a cardinal offense to the gods of sound, but Is can't afford to gut and upgrade everything at once.

It's a slippery slope, in a sense, because once I do the radio, I'd go for the speakers, and then the sub.....so I'd been keeping the urge back, but now that the thread brought the idea back, I'm thinking hard on it again :D

Sorry Kevin. Just made a revision to my earlier post re: stock 6 X 8 speakers.

The "upgraded" Pioneer System is a big improvement over the OEM speakers. Am told by many that you should replace the sub "driver" with an aftermarket one. I.E.- Rockford, etc.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Steve
