Does removing the resonator increase noise coming from the exhaust? and if so how can you remove it? could it be a DIY with some simple tools?

i guess it depends on what you consider simple tools :D. but it would need to be cut out and replaced with a new piece of pipe. welded or clamped.

From the engine the pipe starts out at 3" then out of the resonator it goes to a 2.5"

The Resonator is a Offset in and an offset out! See Pic (THIS IS ON AN '08):

Mike, you have an '01. your resonator is up over the rear axle. The easiest for you is let a shop cut and weld in a pipe.
