Since I'm getting a tax refund this year, I'm looking at FINALLY getting some rims and tires. I plan on going with some 16x8 rims and either some 285/75/16 AT or MT tires. My question is for those that have aftermarket 16x8 rims, what backspacing did you go with? It looks like most of the 16" rims are 4" or 4.5" backspacing. I would like to get the rims and tire to sit farther out than stock. Preferably out to where my EGR fender flares are.

If anybody can help with a recommended backspacing, or if anybody with aftermarket 16x8 rims can post pics with the amount of backspace, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Cris,

First off, if your going with tires that big, do you have a lift on your ST? Second, if your planning on going with a 16x8, and you want the tires to stick out MORE from the wheel wells, you're looking for a - offset. (Negative!) Let me know the info and I can help you. Also, what type of ST do you have, 4x4 or 4x2 and your gear ratio... My ST wheels that I got are 16x8 as well, you can check my pics to get an idea..

You owe it to yourself to look at Tom z wheels on Ebay. I bought 4 American Racing Python model polished aluminum wheels in 16 x 8 for $439.00 including centers, lugnuts, and valve stems. And $75.00 will get them shipped anywhere in the USA. They also have other models of including chrome. They also can answer your fitting questions too. I have on order at my local Walmart store 4 Michelin LTX MS tires in 265/75R. This is the same tire I am replacing except the old ones are stock 255/70R. The old ones lasted really well and gave me a great ride and traction both on and off road. I am buying them at Walmart because of the $10.00 service contract per tire which includes road hazard replacement and free balancing and rotation for the life of the tire. And there are thousands of Walmart stores around the Country in case I ever need service:):).

285's will fit with a TT/Shackle lift. Less backspace is better. The least backspace I've found on a 16x8 is 4" on a Pro Comp 1069. Everything else I've seen has a 4.25" or 4.5" and the tires will likely rub on the inside on a Trac. Most 16" aftermarket wheels are really designed with a GM-type offset even if they have a Ford bolt pattern.

If you're going to buy a whole set of wheels and tires, 15's are a bunch cheaper especially the tires. A 15x8 rim with a 3.75" backspace is common and a couple tire companies make 33x10.50-15's that'll work.

I have an '04 2wd with the TT/shckle lift and the PA 3" body lift. I heard that they may rub a little, but that won't be a big problem for me. I am more than willing to make any necessary trimming.

I'm planning on stopping by my local 4 Wheel Parts in Compton to try and pick up a set of wheels and tires from them. If the price is right, I'll be buying them on Monday. If things don't go well, then I will definitely look at ebay for some possibilities.

The 1069's are the exact rim that I'm looking to pick up. I spoke with one of 4WP's reps yesterday and he said that they might be able to do a set with a 3.75" backspacing. As for rim size, since I already have 16s on my truck, I would like to at least stay with that size and not go smaller. Bigger is always an option, but I'd rather not drop to a 15" rim.
