Up in Tomball (100 miles from the coast!), there were a lot of people that hit the road on Wednesday to miss the rush. Well, they missed the rush alright, and then no hurricane, either. I spent Friday morning boarding up our windows to deal with the CAT 5 HURRICANE! that was heading right towards us. I put up jugs of water (some frozen in the freezer to keep the fridge cool while the power was out), I bought canned goods, I bought candles (no batteries available), I looked for gas (also not available), and then we hunkered down to watch the TV Friday evening. By 8PM we knew there wasn't going to be any storm heading our way. We even drove around some that night. It was a quiet night in Tomball, with everyone gone! Anybody need any candles or soup?
On another note, we also have a plant in Beaumont, where the hurricane actually wound up going. They're shut down right now, with no power and no water. We still don't have a final judgement on how much it's going to cost to get it back into operation. And one of our subcontractors took some food into the TxDOT office there, since several of the people there were living in their offices until they could get their houses repaired!
