I don't have a safari bar, nor do I plan to get one, but I'll throw in my opinion. Since you have a silver ST, I would go with the black safari bar. I think the contrasting colors look best together. If you have other chrome accessories, like wheels, step bars, taillights, etc, then I think the obvious choice would be to go with the chrome bar, otherwise I think the black one looks best on a silver Trac.

I bought the black safari bar and painted it a grey that was close enough (lil darker) for me to the cladding[Broken External Image]:

Just some things to think about. I have the safari bar for about 5 years on my '01 ST.

It does not protect the lights at all. I have hella driving lights which I bought from someone here years ago for a good price so it does not kill me but I'm not happy with it. The sticl out further then the bar and when someone parks in front of you and backins into your front they lights are the first thing hit. It normally just tilts the lights back until they hit the bumper.

The bar itself is not strong at all. Mine gives under the smallest abount of force. If someone pushed hard enough then th ewhole bar pushes back into the bumper. Thats how I can gauge how hard I was hit, either the lights pushed back for a light hit and the bar pushed back for a harder hit.

I had a situation where my friend was stuck infront of me on a busy street and I had no choice but to push him out of the way (a small nissan car). I lightly rolled up behind him with no impact at all and started pushing slowly, little by little. I knew the lights would get pushed back but I thought I would be OK. His car hit a pot hole and that was enough. Broke the glass lens off one of my lights and pushed the whole bar into the bumper. I had to pull it back out later on.

I would not buy one again. I am thinking about the '07 ST and what I can do to protect the front end from crappy NYC drivers.

I'll admit it's more for looks then protection but it does help some. I was involved in an accident over a year ago with an Explorer. It had over $1200 damage to it's rear while all I had to do was buy a new Safari Bar. It absorbed all the impact and didn't even break the attached fog lights. Of course I don't do any off-roading, so I don't buy expensive add-on lights that could easily get stolen or broken. Got the last ones off ebay for $30 and they suit my needs just fine.

I've hit two deer and an orange highway construction barrel. The Safari bar took the hits without damage. One of my Lightforce lights was cracked, however.

I have the black powdercoat Safari Bar. Most will say that it's strictly for looks, but anyone who has been involved in an accident (like TomT stated) will tell you it offers a surprising amout of protection for a light bar.

I hit a large doe going 60-65 a few weeks ago. Hit Bambi's Mom dead center and the Westin Safari bar took the brunt of the damage. Deer's head smacked back and took out the lights and quarter panel, but I can't imagine the damage that would have been done to one of those snotty hybrid cars.

The damn thing came outta nowhere (as they are apt to do) I didn't even have a chance to hit the brakes. I was really surprised how well the truck handled upon impact - a little stutter but maintained it's line and acted as if nothing had happened. Little surprised the airbags didn't deploy, probably saved me from wrecking my truck. I had the bar replaced and this experience ensures that I'll always have a bar in the front of my vehicle.
