I just finished replacing the serpentine belt, idler pulley, and tensioner. I was getting a little chirpping since the weather has gotten cold. Also, I got some coolant on the belt awhile back while flushing the system. Anyway, I went with the 1/2" shorter Gates K060860. (I've been curious to try the shorter belt anyway) I got the Dayco 89006 idler(had rubber wear on it) and the Dayco 89252 tensioner assembly.(tension spring was wearing a bit)+(tensioner pulley ended up being a little loose as well) I was a little concerned after buttoning things up as the belt was touching the tensioner assembly. But, once I gave the engine a bump, it pulled away just enough. Whew. I guess with the shorter belt and new tensioner, it gave it a close fit. Here is a pic with the engine off[Broken External Image]: and with it running[Broken External Image]:. Seems good now. It just gave me a bit of a scare at first. ...I had on the dayco poly rib 5060865 for the last few years. I grabbed the original out from behind the back seats and the number is Motorcraft 1L5E-8620-CB. Interesting. I assume this is 86.2 inches. Most sites list the replacement as 86.5 inches. So maybe there is something to this shorter belt (86.0)being a better fit. :supercool: ...also after I did a flush on my Dad's gen2 st I got some coolant on the belt as well(i think) and it started chirpping a bit also a few weels later. So i guess coolant is bad for the belt.:banghead: lesson learned. I did his belt last week as well(pulley's were fine) and IIRC it was the (gates)86.0 belt listed for the 4.0 gen2 st

couldn't find torque specs for either of these pulley bolts. Anyone know? I tightened them up pretty tight. Tried to match it up(in my head) to when I unbolted them. Just curious as I am a stickler for torque specs. The idler took quite a bit of force to crack loose but also has been in there awhile.(maybe org. cant remember) the tensioner assembley bolt wasn't quite as tight but, pretty snug. I guess as long as there isnt play it should be fine and I'll check each day for a bit...Just curious

Thank you Steve! Happy New Year too:haveabeer: ..whoa. I think I went way past that on the idler. I reused the spacer/washer thing-a-ma-bobs that were on the bolt. It seemed I really had to use some force on it to get the play out. oh well, I really haven't been wrenching long enough to really tell by feel. ...My Father is getting me the 03 Workshop Manual and wiring diagram for my B-day this month:supercool: As always, thanks for all you do to help so many out

call me crazy..but, the steering wheel is now much tighter/firmer/more resistance. Also steering wheel pulls back to center quicker after a turn. I guess my belt was slipping a bit/or not as tight as now. Feels great:driving:
