Hi,

I own a 2002 4x4 with 100k (I’ve got it about 6 months) and I am getting new tires this coming week. Wanted to also change shocks based on so many recommendation to get rid of the originals.

What would you recommend? I don’t use the ST for any off-road…just normal driving and 5 month out of 12 during extreme winter VT conditions 

Any online deals going on for shocks now?

I am assuming this is not that complicated for a mechanic to swap them, is it like 2 hours job for a regular mechanic?

Thanks for your help.

Daniel

Rancho RSX's. A "mechanic" can change em out within 15 minutes on a lift. A driveway Joe like yourself can change em within 1hour with beer breaks in between or 30 minutes without.

YES...you can do it and after your search of the project section, you can do it by picture.

Search IS your friend...Good luck...

Edited to say:

As far as deals, I don't know of any at this time but come spring time Rancho and Monroe will have the usual buy 3 get the 4th free deal.

And again, You, Joe mechanic can do it if you can handle a wrench and twist off (8) nuts and then reinstall them. That's all there is to it!!!

Also consider Monroe Reflex, Bilsteins and KYB Monomax. I am no mechanic and I can change out my shocks in around an hour; 15 - 20 min. for the front, and the rest of the time for the rears. Just follow the Projects on shock installation and you'll do fine. You don't have to remove the front wheels, but it helps; and do lower the spare tire and the breather box on the back side of the left rear shock.

5 years and 100K miles on the original shocks? You will be amzed when you put on those new shocks. I had ProComp 5000s on my truck. They are less expensive than the other brands mentioned here, and they made a huge improvement in handling on my truck.

I have the Monroe Sensatracs and am satisfied with them. I didn't want a harder ride, and these gave only a slightly stiffer ride. Had them on about 50,000 mi now, and I'm about due again.

Monroe Reflex shocks here. Very happy with them.

Edelbrock Performer IAS? Would not put them on a car on the way to the scrap yard.

Just switched to Bilsteins from Edelbrock and big improvement. I use Bilsteins on my other vehicles both American Iron and European. The Edelbrocks wore out after 25,000 miles would not recommend. I got the Bilsteins at Shock WareHouse for $263.00 for the set free shipping.

Glock21,

Send the shocks back to Edelbrock for a free replacement. Then sell them on eBay.

Rancho 5000's

Good on road, off road, and any other conditions. They are a little more expensive, but with a lifetime warranty and the fact that they are Rancho's, you can't go wrong with these.
