How many members have had SS bulbs last longer than 3 years. The pass. side headlight burned out last week and the driver side fog light today. I installed head and fog lights at the same time. Just curious to see if others have had better results for a $30 bulb.

I returned to OEM..... I have no luck with silverstars..... Most last me 1 year or less

I can not remember when the ast time I changed my bulbs on my trac. On top of that, I work second shift, so half the time I do drive is at night with the lights on.

I had the 9007's in my headlights for about four years, then upgraded the Trac to the 9007 Ultras and moved the original 9007's over to my E-450 Class C RV, and 9145's in my fogs for probably three years with no problems!:banana:

I had SS bulbs in my leased 2001 Sport Trac for a year before I gave it back to Ford and bought my 2003 Sport Trac late in the model year I removed te bulbs and put the OEM's back in, and put the old SS bulbs into my new 2003 Sport Trac. I traded it in last January after 4.5 years and never had a bulb burn out. So my SS bulbs had over 5 years on them.

Maybe I just got lucky and got the pic of the litter when I bought my SSs? I also recall that my wife drove the truck much more than I did and we did not drive it a lot at night so that might account for the SS bulbs lasting so long.

I'm sure we all have read the instructions that say not to touch the glass part of the halogen bulb and if you do to wipe it off with a clean cloth. I was told that it is possible that the bulbs may have been been contaminiated before leaving the factory and it is always best to clean them even if you never touched them.

I know a lot of people have complained about the short life of the SS bulbs, and I just wonder if that might be due to touching the bulbs and then just wiping them off with a cloth or paper towel, which is not really removing all of the contaminates.

A trick I learned in Europe many years ago where they have used haogen headlight bulbs for about 40 years. I insert the bulb into the socket with gloved hands, then clean the bulb with an alcohol wipe and dry with a clean paper towel. I use a fresh alcohol wipe and paper towel for each bulb so I am not contaminating the second bulb with any dirt cleaned off the first bulb. It may sound a bit anal, but it did work for me

Installed SS Ultras in the trac when they first came out, haven't changed them since. Now the other car is a different story, I was replacing both headlights and foglights every 2 months in that damn thing. Thank god we got rid of it last summer.

not for nothing but i haven't heard anything good about the silverstars around my neck of the woods. just my 2 cents, sounds like some people like em on here

I have put in 4 Silverstar Ultras in the last 2 years. There is no longevity to these bulbs. As far as an increase in lighting, there might be a slight difference in the low beam. The high beam is no better than stock. On thing I can say for Sylvania is that the advertising gimick worked real well. Got sick of them breaking so I put Piaa's in. No difference. Same dull lighting. It seems no one makes a decent #9007 bulb.

I have them on my '07 both the lights and the fogs.....no problems. I still get flashed by oncoming cars that think I have my brights on. Most of my driving is at night, so the bulbs are on most of the time.

I guess some people have had luck with them and some have not.

i had some in my last car and they lasted about 8 months every time i replaced the stupid things, i decided not to put them in the trac
