I should have known this before I bought them, but can you turn slotted rotors when replacing the pads? I have gotten mine a little hot and can feel them pulsing when braking hard.

I'm not sure about turning the slotted rotors but I'm getting the brake pedal pulsating after I replaced the rotors. I thought I got a bad set of rotors and had them replaced after a month under warrenty but still have the pulsating. Still not able to fix the pulsating! What year is your trac? Maybe it's not the rotors but another issue. I'm still hoping for an answer about the pulsating.

Doug

Doug, your pulsating sounds like it could be the abs sensors gone bad, which are sending a bad speed measurement(different between the 2 front wheels) and is causing the abs to kick in when it doesnt really neeed to...I had this problem, and i ended up having to replace both wheel bearings at a charm of about $600, because the abs sensors are built into the wheel bearings. Other people have been able to just clean them, but i wasnt able to. Its not safe either way. A friend of mine had his abs sensors go bad on his 2003 silverado at like 70,000 miles, and as he was pulling into a parking lot they pulsated, and he ended up sliding into a BMW..($4000 in damage, and the dealer told him that he was supposed to have the sensors cleaned every 25,000 miles):( Good luck

Andy,

The pulsating is definelty different than the normal ABS pulsating. I've had the normal ABS pulsating recently on a snowy road and it's VERY different. It seems to be a warped rotor but it's not. It maybe a ABS sensor and I'll need to investigate this further. I also get the normal shake of the steering wheel in addition to the pulsating when I apply the brakes. Again, all the normal "warped" rotor signs. Would the ABS sensor cause a light shake in the steering wheel?

Thanks,

BTW - Sorry for the hi-jacking of the thread!

Dfeck, Not really...

You can cut slotted rotors, Just most places do not have the nice new machines I would use to cut them. You need a super slow setting, and accurate machine..

Andy Szkutak,

My brother replaced the wheel bearing on his 99 Explorer 4x4 for $80.00. Took 20 minutes to do.

Tom

Tom,

The delaer cost of a wheel bearing is ~$160 each. Aftermarket isn't much cheaper (I checked before myself). So parts alone for both sides is over $300 for a ST. I believe labor runs 2 hours per side (per the book). I know, the book is wrong but my dealer says this is what they charge. I didn't have them do this because I believed they were overcharging so Andy's price of $600 seems to me accurate based on Ford's esitimate.
