Message: <blockquote data-quote="Gerald Pierce" data-source="post: 542296" data-attributes="member: 54639">This is what happens when folks cry "the military/defense budget is to big" and "the base doesn't provide enough income for the local community".... the DOD outsources and reduces military end strength.   The easiest thing to outsource is support/logistics functions such as messing (feeding the troops) and re-supply/distribution.  These company's employees are NOT military, and they must be adequately compensated to operate in a war zone..... and if you owned the company, I am sure you would NOT be working free.  When we are not at war, this is a very economical choice for the military, but when you go to war, you don't have the soldier/sailors/airmen trained or have adequate numbers to provide the sustained level of service so you must bring your civilian company with you, and it's expensive.If they are making a profit by taking care of my brothers and sisters over there.... good on 'em.  At least I know those folks are getting hot meals/clean laundry.....</blockquote>
