I have a 2002 ford explorer sport tra and have been having what I believe is transmission problems. It started with the overdrive having issues. When the transmission shifts I to overdrive over 45 or so and I try to accelerate the truck starts to buck like it want to accelerate but can't. I just sort of ignored that problem(tried to researchbut no luck) so I've been driving with overdrive off for awhile. It doesn't bother me because I live only 10 minutes from work. But now whenever I put the truck in reverse the truck pulses backwards almost as if it's about to stall. I have no idea what the problem is and weeks of research has led me nowhere. If anybody has had any experience pulling apart a 5r55e trans and knows what the problem is or what part has failed please help! I love my sport trac and don't want to have to junk it

How many miles on your Trac, and how many times have you serviced the transmission fluid? Is the fluid level correct? Search internet and YouTube for 5R55 issues, problems, failures. Ford used this transmission on many of their cars; all the problems have been identified for a long time. You'll see from searching there's problems with servo bore shaft and valve body gasket. I think you're going to need help from a transmission shop unless you're a really experienced DIYer.

My sport trac has 135k and I've changed the fluid twice since buying it at 90k. And I've seen all the different things it could be and the whole range of symptoms that they will cause when something goes wrong. This is my dd and don't exactly have the option to pull it apart to check the od servo or the valve body gasket, or ohming out all the shift solenoids. None of what I've found has given me much info to pinpoint what it might be. I was just hoping somebody may have experienced the same issues and found the problem.

I think you're going to need opinion from a reputable transmission shop, then bite the bullet and have the repair done. Big $ but you can rent a car while Trac's being fixed. You could have a used transmission installed but IMO you really don't know what you're getting.

Converter lock may stay locked. If so, it's like a manual in too high a gear - lots of chugging and no acceleration.
