Well the truck has 120,000 klm time to change pluggs. Seems they are 18 $ each ! at the dealership . Any suggestions before I take a stab at it ? Thanks

Whatever you do, use only Motorcraft.

these are also notorious for snapping in half upon removal. there is instructions from Ford for DIY I will try to upload.

Ford upgraded those plugs to a one-piece design midway through the 2008 production year. So anything built before Jan '08 will have the old style. BUT, still take caution by following the TSB for removal of the plugs. I did mine with no drama, took a little over an hour. Bob

I"ve done well over 100 plug changes on the 3 valve motors and NEVER have I had an issue with a plug breaking or not coming out, It can happen but it is not something to be paranoid about...people like to make it alot more dramatic than it needs to be.

We did Champion 7989, one piece.

Gavin--if you click the link above I posted, we did an experiment and cut plugs in half to check out things.

The plug number that the dealership said fits a 2007 is SP462 . It was mentioned that this is a 2 pc plug. Bob mentioned Jan 2008 change to a one piece. It looks like they changed to a SP509 plug which requires the boot to be replaced with a Brown one. 13 dollars per boot .So I guess it isn't worth going to the smaller plug.

Just a side note took truck in for a recall for transmission. Was going to get them to do the plugs.

They called me and said the truck had to cool and they would spray the plug area with Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-up cleaner. let it sit over night then take them out. After telling them that this was the procedure and the service rep didn't believe me. Thanks for all the great advice.

I think I will replace them myself.
