Alright I own a 02 Trailblazer LTZ (your joke here)... Ok now that we have that out of the way I had my break pads replace at midas in March, and after I had them replaced they were squeaking so loud I couldnt stand it. I went back to the guy at Midas and he said well maybe you need new roters... So I got those, and they were squeaking about 2 weeks later. I just took them back the other day and he said he cleaned them up real good, and put some spray or something on them.... Guess what happens a week later! THE SQUEAK AGAIN! He told me to come back if it happens again and they would put on new break pads. Since march this is my 2 set of break pads. The midas guy put on brand new ones with the new roters. If I go back to have new pads put on, and I just wasting my time? Is this going to happen again and again or what? Is there anything I can do to fix them, so I do not have to keep going to Midas? I have drove it a good 6K miles since all this new stuff was put on. This is very frustrating as I take pride in a nice clean vehicle and tires and all much like most of you do. There is nothing that makes me want to craw in a hole more than haveing a super clean vehicle and shattering glass when I stop at the stoplight.

Thanks.

Midas scam. Crap linings screw everything up, then they blame the rotors. If you do the brakes and don't cut the rotors, or do the front and not the back, or whatever, the linings wear out rapidly, sometimes destroying the rotors in the process. In most cases they have no clue what is wrong, and generally blame the rotors at least by your second or third visit, if they didn't get you outright on your first visit. They may have not shimmed them, or they might have used really crappy linings, or they just do crappy work in general.

In the case of the Trac, I had an honest mechanic from Meineke tell me that any of the lifetime brakes might be okay on a light weight vehicle, but on something that weighs 5000 pounds, you're either going to want OEM or comparable brakes (an expensive brake job).

Ever since I use either Akebono, or Wagner ThermoQuiets. The Akebono stop on a dime, the ThermoQuiets stop good, but really are quiet.

Brake squealing is caused by the pads vibrating. The simplest way to stop the noise is to lubricate the caliper slide pins and the brake pad slides on the caliper frame with a high temperature brake grease. This is rarely done by the likes of Midas, etc and even dealers don't do it. If this is done when the pads were replaced in the first place you will not have any brake squeal.

I have been doing my own brake work for about 40 years, I always grease the caliper slide pins and the brake pad slides/tabs and have never had any brake squeal problems.

Birdy, like Rich said. Go to Advance Auto or the like and get thier little packets of "Brake Grease". They are like $.99 each and I got two the last time I did my brakes and only used one on the fronts. No squeels for about 7 months of pressure washes and rain. Quick and easy to do.;)
