I got a new truck from my employer, so I am going to park the ST for the winter... Ian wondering if there are some things i should do prior?

Remove the battery and keep it on a battery tender. Some gas stabilizer is a good idea. Ideally, you'd remove the wheels and tires and keep the truck on jack stands...all this is if you do not plan on driving the truck at all. If you plan on driving the truck on the weekends, there aren't really too many precautions.

Give your ST a nice wash & wax

Change the oil

Top up your coolant and other fluids

Take it for a good run before you park it (removes water vapour from exaust system)

Top your tank up with gas and pour in some gas stabilizer

Jack your car up slightly to take the weight off your tires. (heavy on the word slightly)

Put steel wool in your exaust tips (keeps the roadents from making nice homes over the winter)

Remove your battery

Drain your bug juice bottle (or put in -40 juice so it doesn't freeze)

Throw in some of those desicant packs or charcoal in a tin roasting pan to absorb the moisture

Purchase a quality cover (it should tie down real good if outside!)

Crack one window a tiny bit

Throw in a nice new air freshener so it smells good come spring time :D

(I had a 1986 Monte Carlo SS that I winter stored for years and NEVER had a problem come spring by following the above)

Oh Ya......I forgot one XST

Are you storing the ST inside?

What is the floor? Dirt, Cement, Gravel?

Throw a nice tarp on the ground and park the ST on top of it.

It keeps the moisture off the underside.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the info!

Well I am having a little bit of a dilemma, I am considering either:

Going all out on the ST, making it into something like a show truck

or

Buying a brand new Mustang GT and modding it extremely.

I just dont know what to do... I love my ST, but its just not powerful at all, its really original looking and I get compliments, but I just love some of the body kits for the mustangs, and the fact that I can get over 500HP out of it...

I just dont know, so the ST might be parked for a week, maybe for 3 months.

Why don't you do both? Get a Mustang, put all the good bits in the Trac, and have something REALLY different!

Really no need. Radial tires do not have issues with flat spots like Bias ply tires do. Also, ALWAYS jack it up from the suspension arms and not the frame. You suspension is designed to have a load on it. Taking the load off damages the suspension and shocks. On the shocks, taking the load off it exposes metal to rus where it normally wouldn't.

You could do what I do. Park it, and start it up in the spring and forget about all that other crap.

Never worried about flat spots Tom.... I jacked it up just enough to take the weight off the suspension but not lift the wheels off the ground.

This does not "expose metal to rust where it normally wouldn't" and does NO harm at all.

You could just park it and not do a thing, but in a few years down the road, your vehicle will have issues related to lack of care.

Make sure the gas tank is completely full and add a stabilizer. The fullness keeps the moisture in the air from condensing and becoming water in your fuel.

And get one of these:

(By "these," I mean the charger.)

Wash and Armor All it, change oil, add Sta-Bil and fill gas tank, run it a bit to get the Sta-Bil into the EFI, pump the tires to 45 or so because they will lose air, battery on a battery tender if you want.

I prep my mom's car here when they go to FL for the winter, my dad's beater in FL when they come back north, and my son's Mustang because, well, it's a Mustang, and that's all I ever do with them. Frankly I don't bother with the battery tender however. Mom's Caddy has a storage mode you can punch up on the computer and it's always started, dad's beater I don't want the battery plugged in for four months with no one home, my son's Mustang we just jump it in the spring.
