I want to get a 10" or 12" subwoofer. I was wondering if I could fit a box in between the arm rest and the rear seats, and the sub would be on the floor. Has anyone done anything like that?
Whoa! That enclosure looks sweet. I'm assuming that's one of your designs JDBoxes? How many cu. ft. does it provide? And... secondly... am I seeing right? Does it slightly raise the hieght of the armrest pad?
I only had the shorty bag console, so I didn't lose any vents.
That was really supposed to be my first attempt to get measurements, but I have yet to remake it. It's approx 1.5 cf.
I used myself as a guide to decide what level to have the armrest, I'm pretty sure it is higher than stock and is super comfy.
I still plan on redoing it one day, it's just a way back burner project, and a fairly pricey and time consuming project too. That rough version has approx $300 in materials alone.
Holy Crap! $300 just in materials ??? I guess using fiberglass ups the cost considerably?
1.5 cu. ft. huh? That is definitely tempting. How much room does it leave for excursion? Do you think something like a JL Audio W7 10" could work in that?
Hmm.... I'd have to figure out what to do with the A/C and Heat vents mine gives the passengers though.
Meh... I can't really give those up. My youngin' will need those for years to come.
Oh well... I'm currently contemplating redo'ing my box behind the rear seats to get maximum cu. ft. so I can go ported... while still allowing fold-down of seats. Was thinking of removing the top side and extending upward with fiberglass since I'd probably be able to more easily go narrow with it.
Sigh.... damn man... that center console setup would be bitchin' to have though.
If you're feeling in a giving mood. I'd love your rough notes, sketches of this.
I don't have any sketches or anything anymore, I've moved twice since building it.
The one thing I remember when I was shopping for subs though for the project was that magnet width was an issue. I had plenty of depth to work with, but the space between the seats was the limiting factor.
I'm sure I were willing to give up more of the middle seat foot room I could have gone larger, but it wasn't really a priority. I think what I ended up with was the perfect amount of bass for the truck. It goes loud for sure, but still sounds good, it isn't over the top.
I bought a dual 10 box and have dual Elemental Design SQ10 subs in the back of my truck behind the seat. Also built a metal frame to mount an Alpine PDX.5 amp which feeds the subs and new midrange drivers and separate tweeters in the front doors. Did not upgrade the rear doors at all. H/U is an Alpine CDA9987. It really puts out some sound and sounds good too. (Also did eDesign's eDead sound deadener in the rear of the cab and on both the front doors (inside and out and on the door panel too).
