Is it ok to switch from 2wd to 4wd while moving or should you come to a complete stop before switching? And if it is ok at what speed? I have an 05 sport trac.

Do you have an owners manual? The information is in there.

Don't have one?

Download it at the link below.

To make it short, you can shift on the fly at just about any speed.

for 4wd Hi that is. For 4wd Low you need to be stopped, foot on the brake and in neutral. Like Caymen said, your manual is your friend, it explains how to use it and when to use it.

You can only shift while moving in 4WD High. 4WD Low requires you to stop the vehicle, put the gears in neutral or park, switch to 4WD Low. Once you hear the loud "clunk" you are in 4WD Low. To get out of 4WD Low, just do the same procedure again.

For 4WD High, I believe you cannot switch on the fly at over 70 mph. I sold my ST over a year ago, so my memory is fading on some details.
