My middle son did it. He passed his Blue Belt test and is officially half way to a Black Belt. His discipline, confidence, and maturity have grown so much over the past year that he is now off of his ADHD medication. Tae Kwon Do has been such a positive influence on him. His instructors and fellow students are very special people. It's truly amazing to see a 10 year old jump higher than your head and break a board with his foot, fist or elbow. He has accomplished a lot and we are very proud of him.[Broken External Image]:

congrats. i made it to brown belt in go jo ryu. its a karate style. it was 3 months till my competition to get my black belt and i blew out my knee having fun with some friends, had to get surgury and it was never the same. never really recovered and i could never do what i was able to do before. so i took some time off and just never went back. wish i did. thinking about it but with work and school. pretty tough to find the time.

anyways sorry for my blab. congrats for your son, karate and all forms of martial arts is great for building propper skills that you can use in every day life when your older and even at the present.

That's great about your son Bart. His accomplishments will only motivate him to go further. A friend of mine has a 15 year old who is very unstable and supposedly has ADHD. I been thinking of recommending martial arts. Personally, I've been exercising for the last 3 months and have finally gotten back to the stage where I want to be. Been looking into Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee's variation of kung fu) and I think I'm gonna pursue it. Went through a couple of belts as a kid in Karate but never stuck with it.

First, great news on him being off his meds. What a fantatic side result.

My daughter started Kempo Karate at age six. Got her black belt at eleven and her double degree black belt at thirteen. She is a much better person because of it.

One again ,congrats...

Many children are being misdiagnosed with ADHD these days. My daughter was on meds for ADHD, bipolar and anxiety before she decided to move out to Oklahoma with me. The first day, my daughter brought me her medicine organizer (one like old people use). She told me she took eight pills a day. I called her mom to see if she is dying.

It turns out my daughter didn't need any of those meds -- she just needed a break from her mom. She's taken no meds now for two years. The problem between her and her mom still exists. I received a call Thursday to go pick her up in Kentucky, because her mom was sending her home early. I asked them to give it one more day and then let me know if I still need to come. I also explained to both of them that they need to figure out a way to get along, because if the military sends me away they need to live together for a while. They are doing better today. We'll see if it lasts.

My ex is a brown belt in Shotokan Karate. She used to have me practice with her. She used to have me grab her from behind in a bear hug, so she could try to get loose. She never could. She would get frustrated, but I told her that technique won't always overcome someone who has twice the physical strength.

It sounds like your son has a good instructor. I saw some of the Taekwondo schools in Korea when I was staioned there. They start those kids when they are about 5 years old. You won't see any black belts in their early teens in Korea though. The Asian instructors are much tougher than the ones here.

Sorry for the long post. I guess I am avoiding the painting I have waiting for me. :p
