Do not use lacquer thinner on any painted surface. It will remove paint in a heartbeat.
I assume the pinstripes are just the vinyl tape kind. If so, you just need to warm the stripes witha hairdryer or carefully with a heat gun set on low. You should then be able to pick up the edges with a finger nail. To remove any residue glue you can use Goof-Off, or even WD-40. Be sure to wash and wax the area when you a finished.
If you have painted on pin stripes, they are usually done in enamal based paint and can be safely removed with Enamel Reducer, but again check it on a hiden spot like under the hood or on a door jam where it won't show, just incase it tries to eat your paint...It shouldn't but it's best to be safe than sorry.
