I read this earlier, really sad. I would hope with todays micro-surgery, they can save her feet...:(

I saw that on CNN this morning. The quotes in the article are the exact same ones in the same order that they appeared on the newscast. Seems that the news would be covering it more... Not like that happens every day. Maybe the park has a good PR person who keeps it quiet somehow?

whoa that is just horrible. I smell a lawsuit!

esh... and the quotes they thru into the article.... another whoa.

“When I got up there, the lady, she was just sitting there and she didn’t have no legs,” Smith said. “She didn’t have no legs at all. She was just calm, probably in shock from everything.”

The crazy thing is they "claim" they don't know how/where [sic] it happened. I say let the cats of CSI loose (lol and with facetiousness) to sniff out the cause...they always do.

From what I keep hearing it was at the ankles. Hopefully if they can't be reattached they will send her to Lexington when she is able to go. We have an excellent Shriner's Orthopaedic hospital there. They take children up till the age of 18 at No charge to any of the family. This hospital does research also and is working hard on the type spinal injury that Christoper Reeves had.

The law suit is a minor detail relative to the event.

It probably will never make it to court, simply settle out.

It is a real shame, I pray they can put her back together to some degree that allows her a good life...

Yes, Shriners is excellent. I met several children who were helped there when I lived in Lexington (my hometown).

It's really sad when these things happen. Unfortunately, there is no way to make these thrill rides completely safe. If they were, then there wouldn't be any thrill, would there? That is the whole point, to defy death or injury on a ride. It is the same reason why people bungee jump and jump out of perfectly good airplanes (sky-diving).

[Asbestos suit on:]

I don't think there will be a lawsuit. Every lawyer seems to think the girl has no leg to stand on.

[Asbestos suit off:]

Seriously, though...it sucks for the girl. I hope she can get her feet re-attached and/or lead an relatively normal life going forward.

No, but that ride can be made safer, there is one here in Vancouver BC that is still running because it uses hydraulics instead of cables.

and hydraulics never break right? common people think. anything can happen to anyone anytime. the damn roof on your house could cave in. the highway bridge could collapse when you are driving over it. accidents happen. its a sad thing, sure but its and accident

Did I say that? Nope, I said they are safer. As part of my job I have to use a drill truck to collect soil samples, I used to hire one that had a hydraulic/cable system, cables on that rig snapped on me twice and became bound up once, I now use a straight hydraulic unit and have not had any safety issues. Hydraulics can leak or fail, but at least a cable doesn't come whipping off that can seriously injure someone. Accident happen, but steps can be taken to cause less serious injuries. Kind of like wearing your seatbelt in your car, and how steering columns in cars don't impale you anymore like they did in the old days.
