My brother has located Sport Trac front hubs for a big brake upgrade for the 1996 to 2001 Explorer. He mentioned something about Stainless Steel brake lines. So far, I have been unable to locate any manufacturers that make them.

He wants to have some custom built. If he can have them made, would there be anyone interested in getting some? I know I would get two sets.

Let me knoiw. Nothing is concrete yet and it will be months before anything would happen, I am just wondering if there would be any intrest.

I would be interested in the lines, and the brakes down the road. I just put on EBC pads so whenever they wear down, I'd be looking to do the upgrade (a year or so). Shop here could make the lines for $100 a set, I said no thanks, so if he can beat that, I'm in.

Place here in NY wanted 39.00 a line last month when I asked them.....

Todd, $39 per set is way too cheap. I would be skeptical that they are just cheap brake hoses with a decorative woven sleeve that looks like stainless steel.. True stainless steel hoses use the braided stainless steel cover to add strengh to the hose to prevent it from swelling under pressure which reduces pressure to the brakes.

I have paid $35 each, ($70 per pair) just for stock hose for my 1971 Monte Carlo, and that was about 18 years ago, and that was the cheapest I could find then.

$100 a pair would be a fair price for the stock length if they are truely stainless steel hoses.

RichardL,

If or when we get the lines made, it will be done by a hydraulic shop that specializes in things like that. There isn't much to the lines. The biggest downfall is the fittings Ford uses for the rear.

I said a line not a pair, just to clear it up...;););)

Caymen, I'd love to get a set but Trac money is hard to come by at the moment. I can't say if I'll be able to pick up a set even for just $100, by the end of the year. Best I can do is say "maybe".
