The Olympic Games opening ceremonies suck

Didn't even bother.

No baseball in the Olympics means I won't be watching. I think the Brits were just pissed that polo got cut in the 30s.

Really, once every four years people pretend to care about sports that barely exist in the between years. When's the last time you went to a professional swimming competition or a 100 meter race? These exist as extracurriculars for high school kids as free daycare/drug prevention and money pits to colleges to satisfy Title IX. Soccer already has the World Cup and pretty much dwarfs the Olympics in perceived importance. All the other sports that matter in the least already have their world stage that eclipses the Olympics. It's a tired old procession that is getting more laden with politics. Its a shame really, but I care about the Olympics as much as the World Cup (read zero).

Rant over. I still love the USA, though, and hope we excel in every single event and bring home the most gold medals. I'm still a U.S. exceptionalist.

I will watch every minute of any sport that they have on TV. Bike road race is on now. Opening ceremony sucked, for the most part. Woops the 400 meter swimming is on.

LaRue,

I agree with you that the Opening Ceremonies sucked...big time.

I tried to watch it but I could not even figure out any theme, or meaning for such a disjointed bunch of people running around in Charles Dickens era costumes? Even Paul McCartney sang a bit off key and yet that was the best part of the whole, long, boring show.

I hope the sporting events will be much more entertaining.
