They would never allow this by today's standards-- a music video made during a live day of Mustang production! Having toured LAP during live Sport Trac production, I can't imagine a production like this taking place in that fast-paced environment.

It's still pretty cool though.

The Story of the First Mustang Music Video

n 1965, Rosalind Ashford, Betty Kelly and Martha Reeves took a tour of the Dearborn Assembly Plant to see Mustangs being built. Actually, they did more than just watch.

The three Motown R&B singers, otherwise known as Martha and the Vandellas, sang one of their hit songs, Nowhere to Run, as they wound their way through the ponycar assembly line. In this video, youll see Martha Reeves talk about the experience and the fact that the assembly line was not shut down for the filming. Ford simply could not afford the downtime, given the early demand for the Mustang.

Two of the songs composers, Eddie Hollands and Lamont Dozier, also comment on how part of the background beat for the song was developed. Produced by Motown Records, Nowhere to Run rose to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1965, and is ranked #358 on the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

If you pay careful attention, youll also get to see a Wimbledon White 1965 Mustang Convertible being put together, staring from the paint shop, through body assembly, powertrain installation and final assembly. Now, that car could have been a classic Motown production.

That's why they cost $35,000 instead of $3500. :driving:

Great find, thanks. :haveabeer:

And also the fact that the painting is going on out in the open, not in a booth. Major EPA no-no nowadays. Yet another reason why they're $35K instead of $3500.
