I've had a check engine light on for awhile. The code is P0442 "Evap Emission Control Leak Small." Ford took a look at it and said to get a new gas cap. The check engine light came back on the next day. A couple weeks later the check engine light is off. Did it just fix itself, did the check engine light burn out lol, or what? <----The Stupid Question But Real.

Maybe it was just the fuel cap......

If you turn your key to the run position the CEL should light up, if it does, the lamp and circuit are good.



Chances are, there is a historical code stored. Go to Autozone and let them read it again for you.
