Yep, lot of folks have fantasies about computers monitoring+knowing everything; ie when the tailgate hinge bolts are too loose. LOL!Drivetrain will NOT throw codes...
What you suggest sounds like the most likely suggestion. I’ve made an appointment with a mechanic who specializes in Fords to have a look at the front drive train. Thanks for your suggestion! For my 2002, I also had a ticking sound (almost “tinkling” at times) coming from my drivers side drive train. It was loudest from about 2 mph to 15 mph, and eventually (over the course of several months) grew louder and louder. Finally I engaged the 4WD when I was trying to eventually isolate the sound, and it changed the characteristic of the sound. That is when I found the rear joint (propeller joint or some call CV joint) of the front drive shaft had given up the ghost. Unlike other 4WD assemblies, the front drive shaft of the Tracs always spin with the drivetrain, even when running in 2WD. Swapped out the front drive shaft and ta-da!! Not sayin that’s the issue with ur unit, but might be worth a gander if nothing else….
