Hey peeps! I picked up a nail in my driver's front sometime over this weekend and went to have it plugged on Monday. Seems it's in just the right spot that the plug is unable to hold the tire pressure. The result is I bought a new tire and was going to switch my spare, which is also new, to match it. Well I was at the dealer today and they pulled the spare only to find that it had an unusal amount of friction/rubbing wear againist the frame(I guess due to it never being removed). Now I need to replace two tires, all for a roofing nail I picked up at my complex where they are roofing like chickens on crack!!!

First question: When I purchased my truck, would that normally have been something the dealership should have checked before I drove off the lot? I know now it's not a big deal, but what if I replaced it on the highway and the spare blew and I got into a serious accident? IMO it sounds like the dealership is at fault.

Second question: Am I just wasting money by replacing my Goodyears with more Goodyears? I read a tons of posts here and the ongoing complaint is that Goodyear really blows..no puns intended.

Thanks in advance!!

IMO, the GY RT/S is crap...I wouldnt buy them...cant wait till I get them off my trac...will replace them with new wheels...cant make up my mind about the wheels...

#1 you should never plug a radial tire it breaks more cords and can cause a seperation.

#2 the spare tire usually presses up against the frame and makes indents on it it sometimes looks worse then what it is.

#3 If you are going to replace all the tires go with REVO's thats what I am putting on my brand new Trac when I get home in Feb.

The same happened to me about twice (and how come roofer's never get flat tires....)

No, I don't think it's the dealers fault.

My vote is for Michelin. I think they handle water better on wet season (rain comes down A LOT in the summer in FL; and always at rush hour time, so that was a criteria for me). Second, the vibration is gone since I've been using Michelin.

Only if you're replacing them with the OEM Wrangler RT/S. The new Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor seems to be the best tire on the market right now.

My stock goodyears melted after sucking for 30K miles.

Went with Pirelli Scorpion STRa tires.

You should always patch a tire from the inside. I went to a place that did a "liquid patch" which plugs from the inside, then they pour goop over it which vulcanizes into a rubber patch.

Of course I swear I feel it everytime the spot hits the pavement.

Hey Mike,

I'm in the exact same situation. Same tires too. When I got off the train last night, my right front was flat. Sidewall had a hole. (vandalism?). My spare had the same scuff marks but was OK. I decided to buy a replacement for $148. (ouch!). Probably should have switched the spare on to the aluminum rim and found a lower cost tire for my spare, but then when I looked at the cost of swapping tires, buying a new spare, plus the time & inconvenience, I just bit the bullet, and bought another Crapyear.:(

Hi Rampo,

Wow and I thought paying $120.00 for a new tire was steep. Yah I'd have to say this was a learning experience. Two new tires ($240.00) for a lousy 2 cent roofing nail. I am going to try and see if I can get some sort of compensation from the Condo association and/or the roofing company. It may seem selfish but times right now are tough. Come spring when the weather gets milder I plan on buying a new set of tires and replacing the shocks. I also am adding an exhaust and K&M air filter. Gotta love the tax return!:lol::lol:
