Hi all,

I've been reading about the uneven tire wear on the STs and TSB 051111. Went to the dealer today because one of my front tires is about shot and I'm not sure what to do. The inside edge of the front driver's side tire is basically smooth. The rest of the tire is fine. :( Unfortunately TSB 051111 only applies for first 12 mo's or 12,000 miles and I'm at 2.5 years and (only) 22,000 miles.

Now, here's my current tire situation.... I have nearly new Goodyear's (I know, I know - crappy tires) on the back. Had a rear blow out a year or so ago. Put the (unused) factory spare on and got a new Wrangler - so I have essentially new tires on the back. But, need to replace at least one front tire. So... what to do? Options...

Cheapest option - rotate front to back and hope to get a few more miles out of the tires. Downside is I have to continue putting up with crappy ride and shaking and shimmying at anything over 80 mph. (Nice way to force me to hold my speed down a bit though!)

Next option - buy 2 new tires for front.

Most $$ option - 4 new tires.

I know 4 new tires is the preferred option, and dump the GY's, but I've got two new tires. :( What would you do?

The guy I spoke with at the dealership recommends Michelin LTX M/S tires. I bought the ST in Wisconsin and cared about snow/ice there but have moved to sunny So Calif since and so I'm not too concerned about snow/ice anymore. I do mostly highway driving and am starting to put on quite a few more miles than prior to living in So Cal. (Great timing with it costing me $75 to fill up nowadays. Ouch.) I read that a lot of you like Bridgestone Revo's. Shopping for tires for me is a matter of picking out the "prettiest" ones cause I'm clueless otherwise. (If I didn't check out this forum I'd probably be buying 2 new GY's. Yikes!) Thoughts?

On another note, I told the service tech that I heard/read the shocks were crap and asked about replacing them. He said unless they were leaking they should be fine. What do I know? All I know is my ST rides like crap, and shimmies and shakes at anything over 80. He says that just new tires and an alignment will fix that. Whaddya think?

Help! Thinking about stuff like this makes me.

And, thanks in advance. I don't drop by here often... only when I have a problem. But, you are always really helpful. :)

Get a set of new tires, trade in your other new tires.

Or at least two matching for the front now, and later replace the rear two to match the front.

Get new shocks, most commonly recommended are Monroe Reflex, Edelbrock IAS, and KYB Monomax.

Get an alignment.

Try to do this at the same time. Consider it a one-time long term investment. Your worth it.:D

And go to the ST Meet at Bonelli Park in San Dimas on July 8th. Check the Events board.

The new shocks will help your new tires last longer. Tire cupping is partially caused by weak shocks. Don't have your truck aligned by a Ford dealer. Go to a reliable alignment shop. They will likely find that your camber has been out since the day your truck left the factory (it is not adjustable without an aftermarket camber kit). My local Ford dealers (two different ones) insisted my alignment was in specs, but when I replaced my tires at 26K the tire store showed me the camber was out. I took the printout to another Ford dealership, and they installed a camber kit under warranty.
