I'm planning on getting some new rims soon. I think I'm going to with 20's in the front 22's in the rear. Is anyone running this setup? I'm trying to figure what tire size I should get for them.

i was thinking of doing that.

depends on what tire you run up front. wether or not you want to different tire sizes.

265/35/22 in the rear, 255/35/20 front or 255/30/22 rear 255/35/20 front .

the 255/30/22 tire can be expensive though.

i thought you had 22's already???

JK,

I did this on my old car and found out it was a pain in the ass when rotating my tires (I had directional tires). There was nothing like running 19's on the front and 18's on the back.

You should be fine with staggered sized tires.

I've got two different tires front to rear, and they're directional, so I can't rotate them. So far, after about 8 months tread wear is fine and the tires are holding up well. Just make sure you get a tire with a good long tread life. Mine will need to be replaced probably only after 10-15,000 miles because of the low treadwear and high traction.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but, if you have 4wd that is a very bad idea is what I've heard.

Tony I got rid of the them about a month ago. As for rotating the tires I was planning on getting these tires.

Hoaxci, You are correct, but JK's ST is 2wd....

JK,

I have seen people running 2 different tire widths, like the old muscle cars, but 2 different size rims??? Is there any point to this???

Thanks

Todd-

Staggered width wheels is VERY common in the hot/street rod world. Every heard of "big and littles"? That refers to the wheel and tire size...big wheels and wide tires in the back (typically 18-20" wheels with 285+ tires) and smaller wheels and tires in the front (16-18" wheels with 235-285ish tires).

Its all for a look. I'll eventually put 18" wheels on the front and 20" wheels on the back...all for the look. Plus it's easier to lay out on 18" front wheels then 20". Start looking at hotstreet rod pictures...you'll soon start to see the difference in wheel sizes front to rear. Although this current "nostalgia" hot rod trend you'll more likely to see Steelies of 16" and 15" with different sized tires....but the greats like Boyd, Troy and Chip are still putting big in the back, little in the front.

Thats pretty much it right there.

a 18 will look real dumb on the front of a sport trac. heck my 20's look too small. i need 22's.

with a 255/35/20 tire you could set the engine crossmember on the ground by removing the inner fenderwells and 2" of sheetmetal and moving the battery somewhere, and bending the ABS out of the way a little. I took the plastic inner fenders out and peeked around and measured one night. i thought about doing it but decided not too just because i dont want mud and crap all everywhere when im drivin in the rain.

What I meant about Tigers quote was for the look. I'm doing the 20/22s. What 20's do you have. They look like Boyd's.

they are eagle series 211 20x8 with a 5" backspace. They were about half the price of the American Racing Torque thrust II's. But i they are kinda weak, ive bent the lips of them in a few places and half way straightened them out.

I like this wheel, which happens to be almost the same as my current ones.

The Coys Wheel C5 polished.

Those look good! I'm probably going to go with these or possibly the Rockstar.

22's on a guys sport trac i met 2 years ago and i see and talk to him at shows. He had 20's with 245/35/20 tires and changed to 22's and a reverse 4 link.

the front leaf spring hanger was on the ground in the back. and that is still without cutting the bed. The bed floor was bowed up when aired out cuz the diff pushed up on it a few inches. The plastic bed floor would bend and bend back.
