My Tivo is starting to crap out. The picture stops playing, gets pixelated and some times freezes. Sometimes the sound keep splaying sometimes not. I have the Toshiba SD-H400 . I bought it as a refurbished unit from eBay a few years ago so I got my moneys worth.

Anyone want ot give their opinions on their machines? I would like to stick with a Tivo that also plays DVD's so I dont have to also buy a DVD player and have another remote around and so on.

Which Tivo's do you guys have? Series2 or Series3? The series 3 are expensive and i don't think I have a need for it.

I have a single tuner TIVO 80 hour unit and love it! I would like to get a dual tuner, maybe even with more recording time,, I WOULD LOVE the HighDef unit but to much money for me right now..

I think the Humax units are the only ones that will record direct to DVD currently.

I use Tivo desktop and some open source software to convert reocred shows to DVD or to my creative Zen video player

There is a coupon for tivo service in my library

It's not Tivo per se, but there are several models of non-subscription DVRs (hard drive-based video recorders) currently on the market that also have DVD recording capability. Many/most use the TV Guide on-screen system, which does a respectable job of recreating Tivo-like features. Toshiba, Panasonic, and Pioneer are all in the market, there may be others. Panasonic even makes one that has a hard drive, DVD recorder, and a full function VCR, all in a single unit.

We have a DVR through our cable provider. Doesn't cost us a dime to use/have. A cheap DVD player can be purchased for less that $50.00.

Just another option.
