Three Religious Truths

I was reminded of this joke when a friend in Oklahoma, where I was visiting last week, told me about a liquor store there which, in the old days, had a "Baptist Window". That, he explained, was a pass-through from the store into the back alley, where Baptists would come to get their liquor -- and not be seen by neighbors.

Three Religious Truths

1. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

2. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian faith.

and...

3. Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store or at strip clubs.

Eddie,

:bwahaha:

That's funny....and probably true. I live in Waco, Tx, home of Baylor University (Baptist college) and probably more churches per capita than anyother town in America. Many Baptist hide a lot more than just their use of alcoholic beverages...

It can actualy go for any denomination. I wasnt picking on baptist. That was were I was, Before going to the present methodist church. Im just a Christian.

Rich, your right about many from all over hide things...LOL

Eddie,

I know you were not picking on just Baptists. I know their are many hypocrites in all religions. However most Baptists are known for their temperance and for their religious beliefs against dancing? So most joke associated with Baptist are based on alcoholic beverages or dancing.

For nearly 10 years I worked as an IT manager at a local Baptist hospital. I left because of a lot of their authoritarian management style and their attempts to force Baptist doctrine down the throats of all employees, regardless of their religious beliefs. They also tended to limit higher level promotions to only Baptists.

The final straw was after I caught the President of the hospital in a couple of financial lies, and then I realized that he was using Christianity as cover for some very un-Christian like behavior only because he thought nobody would ever find out. As an IT manager, I had access to all the financial and payroll data, and found some serious descrepancies with what he was telling the public and the employees. He was not stealing any money, but it was how he represented the hospital's financial status that was an obvious lie.

I never told anyone about this, and preferred to move on to another job rather than work for someone who professed to be a religious man, but was hiding behind lies to make himself look good.

Grew up Baptist and currently attend a Methodist church. Can't tell a difference between the people attending either one. There doesn't seem to be the stereotypical secrecy in either church I attended. Some holier-than-thou's but I guess it only bothers those with a guilty conscience.

Anyway, on my way to the pool, Yuengling in hand. Catch y'all in the third pew Sunday morning. Have a blessed evening.

Bob C, Here Iam 24 yrs latter. I still have to do my moral inventory. Constantly finding skeletons....LOL

Including the way I act on this board sometimes...LOL

I live in a town with a Reformed Church and a First Reformed Church. They're not the same, but both share very conservative social beliefs. My dad used to play in a dance band and played venues around the area. The members of those churches always put on a good front when in their hometowns... no drinking, no dancing, no flirting, no work on Sundays, no socializing with Catholics, etc.

Dad would come home from "dance jobs" with stories of those church members living it up when they thought no one was paying attention. They drank, danced, flirted, and other forbidden things.

Mark,

I dont know wether to call it dogma or doctrine. There is and has been soo many things. The church said, no no. Some of it cant be backed up with scripture. Mankind getting his own idea's taught from the pulpit. Some of it was so radical wrong. It kept many away and from believing in God.

As for me I cant drink. There is no moderation. The bible speaks on moderation, and says not to be a drunkerd and foolish. Says nonthing about not drinking.

One of my best friends from 1 thru 12th grade. We went to the same church. His mother was so hung up on showing flesh. She made him take extra long pants and shirt for PE class. My mom thought she was foolish.

Another is, I dont like politics from the pulpit. I didnt like politics from my union hall either. Im smart enough to make own choice even if its wrong.

There is one thing that stuck in my head. 24yrs ago My last rehab was christian based. We had a baptist preacher in cognitive reality class. He said, one of the best ways to have your children rebel and possibly get on drugs. Was for the church or family keep them so tightly, under there thumb. As so they dont experiance and make their own mistakes and decisions. Feed them full of mans idea of christianity.

This baptist preacher also said, he had no problem going dancing with his wife. His rule was only he has the right to dance with her. Also if he has a beer. He hasnt sined unless he gets drunk.

For me though. Drinking and druging is sin. I cant control it...Bob C knows what I mean...
